What is a band pass filter?
A band pass filter is a filter that allows signals within a certain frequency range to pass, while attenuating or blocking frequencies below and above this range. The frequency range in which the signal can pass is defined by the lower and upper cut-off frequencies of the filter. Band pass filters are often used in communication systems, audio and radio systems as well as in measurement technology. There they eliminate interfering frequencies and thus isolate the desired signals.

Band pass filters combine the properties of two other types of filters: a low pass filter , which allows frequencies below a certain limit to pass, and a high pass filter , which allows frequencies above a certain limit to pass. The range between these two cut-off frequencies is referred to as the “passband”. Although a certain amount of signal attenuation in the passband cannot be avoided due to insertion loss, we minimize this loss through precise engineering and and manufacturing processes.

What types of band pass filters are available?
Wainwright Instruments offers band pass filters with various different response types in order to provide effective solutions for a large range of global applications.
- Butterworth band pass filters: These filters offer a flat amplitude response in the passband and are characterized by uniform attenuation in the stopband. They are ideal for applications where high frequency stability and low distortion are required.
- Chebyshev band pass filters: These filters offer a steeper slope than Butterworth filters, but allow greater distortion in the passband. They are ideal when strong attenuation of frequencies outside the passband is required.
- Bessel band pass filters: These filters are ideal when maintaining the signal waveform and minimizing phase distortion are crucial. They offer particularly high phase linearity and are ideal for audio processing applications.
- Elliptical band pass filters (Cauer filters): These filters offer the fastest attenuation of frequencies outside the passband. They are particularly effective in communication technology when precise frequency separation is required.
- LC band pass filters: These filters consist of inductors (L) and capacitors (C). They provide a simple and cost-effective solution for band pass filter applications, especially in RF technologies and analog circuits.

This list contains many of our Standard Band Pass Filters, as well as guaranteed specifications and prices for these. Each row represents a particular filter and by entering or selecting your required specifications, you will remove those filters from the list that don't meet or exceed your requirements. Apart from selecting various filter specifications, you can also choose to have dimensions and weight displayed in the metric or the imperial system. This choice will also be reflected on the datasheet that is generated. Lastly, you can also choose your required quantity, which will display the respective unit prices.

We recommend to proceed as follows:
- Enter your required Fco (passband cutoff frequency) in the field where it says "Enter Fco" and press return on keyboard. Now only filters that can be offered with your required Fco will remain in the list.
- One by one, select your other required specifications from the drop-down menus at the top of the list. As you select more specs, the list of filters will continually shrink until you are left with a single or very few relevant filters to choose from.
- Click Data sheet on the left of any row to view that filter's datasheet. On the datasheet itself you will still be able to adjust your Fco - if necessary - and select your preferred connectors. You can either print out the datasheet or generate a PDF for saving or emailing.
